Hello. I'm Billy Mac Donald.

I am a Designer and Maker who was born in Tianjin, China and grew up in Dublin, Ireland.

I enjoy the design process and see it as a great opportunity to wrestle between the worlds of 'work' and 'play'. I love to soak up new techniques and to explore ideas through prototyping. Design and Making are intrinsic. I am drawn towards character design and building worlds that reflect or subvert elements of our own reality.

I graduated with a BA in Model Making, Design and Digital Effects in 2013.

In 2016 I completed work on Penny Dreadful Season 3 in the Prosthetics Department lead by Nick Dudman and I worked with the Prosthetics team on Into the Badlands Season 2.

In 2015 I was invited to show my Toy Design work along with other Irish graduates and design start-ups at the Fresh Talent exhibit which was showcased at Design Hub, Dublin Castle and The National Craft Gallery. The exhibit was curated by Angela O'Kelly as part of Irish Design 2015.

In August 2015 I was asked to design and lead an architecture based workshop for children. Modular Tower took place at the National Craft Gallery over three days during the Kilkenny Arts Festival.

Between 2013 and 2015 I made architectural models at Modelworks Media for international clients and some closer to home architects. I used a blend of traditional hand and tool skills with modern computer aided techniques such as 3D Printing, 2D CAD drawing and CNC Milling.
